Alberta Government and The Alberta Tar Sands
Alberta government has offered signficiant support to the Alberta Oil Sands extractions. Spending billions of dollars on advertising attempting to make the Alberta oil sands seem more benfincial to Canada. With a particular focus on how Alberta is working towards an innovative and environmentally friendly oil extraction pratice. However there has been many studies that show there is a considerable amount of damage done to the environment caused by the oil extractions in Alberta. Yet the Alberta government releases many advertisements, listing the benefits of the Oil Sands.
Albertas government advetises the short term benefits that the Oilsands provide, but do the benefits outweigh the environmental consequences. Alberta's laws hold companies, and in this case the Oilsands company, to a zero charge policy. This means that the companies are companies a resonsible for getting rid of their waste, thus making the government who is promoting the Oilsands not responsible for the long term damages.
Social Media
The Alberta Government supports the Oil Sands, yet they recently have passed multiple policies that focus on climate and health. Many Albertans were against the Oil Sands, and did not want the government to allow the land, which Alberta is truly famous for, to be destroyed. Yet the Albertan Government still represents their environmentaly friendly policies and advertises this through twitter and various social media platforms. The even have a website devoted to their stances on climate . The images that are typically used are the beautiful landscape of Alberta, its mountains and clean water. Alberta does not want to be seen as a contributor to pollution and distruction of the environment by their investment in the oilsands, but their amazing scenery as seen in the above photographs.
